Conebi sets priorities for 2022 and announces João Miranda as new member of the Conebi Board.

Brussels – 30 November 2021. Conebi’s General Assembly took place digitally on November 23, 2021. The General Assembly welcomes a new member of the Board of Directors – João Miranda from Abimota – who takes the place of Paulo Monteiro Rodrigues as one of the Vice-Presidents of Conebi. The rest of the Board of Directors consists of Erhard Büchel (Chairman), Ton Anbeek (Vice-Chairman), Massimo Panzeri (Vice-Chairman) and Remco Tekstra (Treasurer).

Abimota and Conebi express their gratitude to Paulo Monteiro Rodrigues for his work and wish him all the best for his future. Paulo spent 4 years on the Conebi Board, representing an invaluable asset to the institution and actively contributed to the positive developments of Conebi and its work.

“It was with great honor that I assumed this position and I hope that my experience as a businessman in the bicycle sector and president of Abimota can contribute to further affirm the excellent work that Conebi has developed over the years”, says João Miranda.

João Miranda is a well-known industrialist, deeply involved in the Portuguese industrialization project: “We look forward to working together in view of the upcoming legislation challenges in Europe, which undoubtedly has the potential to shape confidence and the long-term market for current and future investments in our continent,” says Erhard Büchel, President of Conebi.

In addition to the appointment of João Miranda, Conebi’s General Assembly discussed the industry and market developments in Europe in the first half of 2021. Erhard Büchel commented: “The supply chain issues are not over, but the industry has reason to be optimistic; cycling is gaining ground and our advocacy work for the sector is paying off both in the EU and at national level.”

Following the important success achieved this year with the exclusion of EPAC from the scope of the new directive on the European institutions, the 2022 work in Brussels will focus on different dossiers, including the reviews of EU machinery, general product safety, batteries and type-approval legislations. The industry’s recently launched anti-tampering pledge has already yielded the first tangible results, with the invitation to present the issue at one of the next EU meetings of the forum for the exchange of information on implementation, organized under the aegis of the European Commission.

“The role of legislation is crucial and will be among the main factors for the growth of the market and the industry that we foresee for the coming years” says Manuel Marsilio, Secretary General of Conebi.
